5 MMA fan favourite and arguable the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world Anderson “The Spider” Silva, 25-4 (9-0 UFC), will not be making his (5th) UFC Middleweight title defence at UFC 109. He was slated to face Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort,19-8 (8-4 UFC), however Silva is still recovering from an operation to remove bone fragments from his elbow. Don’t worry fight fans, this fight is definitely going to happen, we just don’t know when.
111 The UFC must make up for lost time in 2010 and this can only be a good thing for the fans. Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre has dominated everyone that has been put in front of him in recent years holding a record of 19-2 (UFC 13-2) and has a growing fan base. The fruits of this support have finally been realized as GSP received sponsorship from sport giant Under Armor the first MMA fighter to achieve this. Regardless of his success outside of the Octagon, GSP has a new threat to his belt in the shape of British MMA superstar Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy holding a record of 23-6-1NC (UFC 4-0). The two will meet at UFC (111) in Newark, New Jersey. Many fans wanted to see this fight held in Britain as if The Outlaw is triumphant he would become the first British Champion in UFC history. I guess it was pushed forward so the UFC could start putting titles on the line as soon as a fight of that nature became available.
