2007 Kevin Ferguson better known as Kimbo Slice, first entered the MMA world in (2007) Last night the world watched as he took centre stage inside the biggest proving ground for a mixed martial artist, The Octagon.
2002 The name Kimbo Slice comes from the result of his first street fight in (2002) where a cut was sustained over the opponent’s right eye, the internet interest surrounding the fight dubbed Ferguson Kimbo Slice because of the cut.
5 Kimbo has had (5) professional fights with a current professional record of 4 wins, 1 loss. His first MMA fight was against former HBO Heavyweight Champion Ray Mercer at Cage Fury Fighting Championships 5.
112 Slice won the bout at (1:12) in the very first round by way of guillotine choke. After the fight Slice made it clear that he would like to fight MMA veteran Tank Abbott. The matchup was slated for Cage Fury 6 but was later cancelled due to a promotional dispute.
11 Kimbo’s first chance to reach a bigger audience came on, October (11) 2007 when it was announced by ProElite. The first fight under the brand was at EliteXC were he competed against Bo Cantrell.
19 The bout was over in just (19) seconds due to submission by strikes. The succession of quick knockouts continued when Slice finally got to fight Tank Abbott, however it didn’t last long. Slice won by KO 43 seconds into the first round.
2008 Kimbo fought in the main event of, EliteXC: Primetime, 31 May (2008) against James Thompson the fight went into the final round but Slice came out on top, with a TKO victory.
10 Kimbo was lost when his promotion EliteXC ceased to exist. UFC president Dana White publically said that if Kimbo wanted to fight at the top level in the industry then he would have to go thought The Ultimate Fighter and went as far as to announce that he would commission a Heavyweight edition of the show to give Slice the chance. This was to become reality on June 1, Kimbo Slice would be an official contestant on The Ultimate Fighter (10).
2 Kimbo was on team Rampage, coached by Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, former UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion. However Slice’s luck ran out, when he was defeated by former IWF Champion, Roy “Big Country” Nelson. The bout was stopped in the (2) nd round as a result of ground and pound strikes from the crucifix position.
4 This was far from the end of the road for Slice as last night he defeated veteran striker, Huston Alexander. The Display by Kimbo was the best of his career, it wasn’t the most exciting fight in the world but it is obvious that Kimbo was worked with his partners at American Top Team. His ground game has improved massively and this has shocked all of us because before the fight Slice was considered a one dimension fighter as was obvious during his time on the Ultimate Fighter. Kimbo Slice wants to learn and become the best Mixed Martial Artist that he can be. He recognises his flaws and works hard to improve the holes in his game, as was evident from last night’s performance. Last night was his (4)th win overall but only his 1st in the UFC.
That is why we love Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson!
