UFC 108: Redemption, Returns, and the Curse

1 Number of losses (1) for the 13-1-1 Rashad Evans and the 14-1 Thiago Silva and each man lost to Lyoto Machida in the first half of 2009.

6 Silva has fought (6) times in the UFC. None of them have gone the distance and all of them have ended due to strikes.

10 Evans has fought (10) times in the UFC and his last three have ended due to strikes. He KO’d Chuck Liddell, TKO’d Forrest Griffin, and then got KO’d by Machida.

4 Difference in pounds (4) between welterweights Paul Daley and Dustin Hazelett. Daley came in a pound over at 172 while Hazelett tipped the scales at 168 pounds. Hazelett agreed to the catchweight and Daley will be fined ten percent of his purse.

14 Thanks to a knee injury, Hazelett will be coming off an almost (14) month layoff. Back in 2008 he had two tremendous submission wins over Josh Burkman and Tamdan McCrory.

231 Daley has fought much more recently and it lasted just (2:31). He blasted Martin Kampmann at UFC 103 to win his UFC debut.

7 Sam “Hands of Stone” Stout has surprisingly not stopped anybody in his (7) appearances inside the Octagon. He is 3-4 overall with six of those fights going the distance.

6 Joe Lauzon has made (6) trips to the Octagon and his record is quite a bit different than his Stout’s. None of Lauzon’s fights have made it to the final bell and he’s 5-1 in the UFC.

11 Duane Ludwig hasn’t fought in the UFC in almost four years and the last time lasted (11) seconds, at least officially. Ludwig KO’d Jonathan Goulet in more like four seconds.

348 Ludwig’s opponent, Jim Miller, has fought in the UFC much more recently. His last, a win at UFC 103, time was his shortest at (348) seconds. Much longer than Ludwig’s but Miller is 4-1 with the promotion.

45 Between them, Junior dos Santos and Gilbert Yvel have won (45) fights and all (45) have been due to stoppage. Junior is 9-1 while Yvel is 36-13-1. Almost all of the stoppages have come via (T)KO.

42 Number of days (42) since Jacob Volkmann suffered his first loss. It came during his UFC debut at 106 via a tough decision to Paulo Thiago. Now again thanks to the curse of UFC 108 he’ll enter the Octagon after just (42) days of rest.

9 Volkmann’s opponent, Martin Kampmann will be making his (9th) appearance in the Octagon and looking to erase a knockout loss at UFC 103 at the hands of the aforementioned Paul Daley.

64 Back at UFC (64) Dan Lauzon (Joe’s little brother) became the youngest to set foot in the Octagon when at 18 years, 7 months, and 16 days old he was a late replacement and took on Spencer Fisher.

81 Since losing to Spencer Fisher, Lauzon has gone (8-1) and will now face a stiff test in UFC veteran Cole Miller.

25 Miller might be a veteran, but at (25) years of age he isn’t exactly over the hill. And just like Kampmann he’ll be looking to erase a loss at UFC 103. His came against Efrain Escudero.

3 The card will play host to (3) other interesting match ups, including: Mark Munoz vs. Ryan Jensen, Mike Pyle vs. Jake Ellenberger, and John Gunderson vs. Rafaello Oliveira.
