Tonight we’ll watch (2) Hall of Famers in Randy Couture and Mark Coleman hook it up in the Octagon. I’m making the call now; the combined age of both men will be (105) before we see two Hall of Famers square off again. Then again, that’s just (14) years away.
We now know that Nate Marquardt and Chael Sonnen are (1) win away from a crack at Anderson Silva for the middleweight belt (assuming Silva gets by Vitor Belfort). Does anybody else kind of hope Sonnen wins just to hear what else he’ll say about Anderson Silva?
For welterweight Paulo Thiago it will be his (3rd) time in (4) UFC appearances to fight an American Kickboxing Academy product. This time it will be Mike Swick. Thiago is (1-1) against AKA with a KO of Josh Koscheck and a decision loss to Jon Fitch.
Jiu Jitsu ace Demian Maia looks to rebound from his (21) second KO loss at the hands of Nate Marquardt at UFC (102). His opponent, Dan Miller, looks to rebound as well. He was decisioned by Chael Sonnen at UFC (98). Sonnen is the only common opponent between the two men.
Frank Trigg has (2) pounds on Matt Serra in what might be a fight for their UFC existence. Trigg might be more on the bubble as he was TKO’d by Josh Koscheck at UFC (103) in his return to the UFC after a near (4) year absence. Serra hasn’t won since the shocking stoppage of GSP at UFC (69), but he’s only fought (2) times since then and against welterweight legends, GSP and Matt Hughes.
Lightweights Mac Danzig and Justin Buchholz are no doubt in the same boat as Serra and Trigg but their boat is probably riding lower in the water. Danzig has lost his last (3) in the UFC while Buchholz has lost his last (2).
The card also hosts (3) highly anticipated debuts as Ronnys Torres takes on Melvin Guillard, Phil Davis fights Brian Stann, who’s going for his (3rd) straight win in the promotion, and Rolles Gracie meets another newcomer in Joey Beltran. The “Mexicutioner” Beltran is just (3) weeks removed from a TKO of former UFC star Houston Alexander.
Can we all hope that Chris Tuchscherer will get kicked in the nuts (0) times when he meets up with Tim Hague. And for Hague, a former teacher of (5) year olds, can we hope this time his fight goes longer than (7) seconds. Both last fought at UFC (102) and it was a sucky night for them.
